History White House
We have to go way back into the last century. During the period when camping was still in the early stages of development. Primitive washing at the pump like the photo below was common for this time.
The construction drawings from 1924 show the beginnings of the house. We know from tradition that the first inhabitants of the Acker were called and came from Friesland. Ackersate means small property of the Acker family. The Harremaatweg was not very built up at the time because the house had house number 10. The telephone number at the time was 178, can you imagine that?

After the residents Van de Acker and Hoenderdos, the holiday resort as it was then called was taken over by the Portegies family. The telephone number then also became somewhat more extensive, namely 03429-588. In addition to staying in the house for €3.18 per person per day, you could also sleep in a house, which at the time still had no toilet due to legislation.
The Portegies family transferred the company to the Nonnekens family and business partner Ruys family at the end of the fifties. The company was made more profitable at the time by manufacturing and selling camping trailers.

This came to an end in 1965 when the Van Ommen family took over the company. At that time it had 16 summer houses, a few camping sites and a canteen with a camping shop. The photo below is an old collage of some of these summer houses.
At the end of the sixties, Voorthuizen became increasingly popular. More than a century has passed and after several transformations the house is still in use. Now no longer as a home but as an office and employee spaces.
You are cordially invited to take a walk on the grounds!
